The pink Mini cooper came to a smooth stop in front of the hotel. Anne turned off the engine and sat there for a few seconds, staring at herself in the rear view mirror. She tilted her head to one side then the other. She adjusted one of her earrings "Perfect" she smiled at herself "Okay, Anne. You look good" She reached for her handbag on the passenger seat and checked her appearance one more time. Her hair was neatly styled. Her makeup was soft but expensive-looking. Her dress hugged her body perfectly without looking excessive. She looked down at herself and smiled. "Honestly, if I were a man, I'd marry me" she laughed quietly. " Okay, that's enough" She picked up her phone and checked the time "Thirty minutes early" she sighed. "I hate being early" She put her phone inside her handbag, opened the car door and stepped out. The soft sound of her heels hitting the polished pavement echoed through the quiet entrance of the luxury hotel. Click, Click, Click, she didn't rush. She placed one foot carefully on the ground, adjusted the hem of her short, perfectly tailored dress, ad slowly rose to her full height. She closed the door gently then she stood there for a moment, looking at the car, a smile touched her lips. It wasn't the most expensive car in the world, but it was hers, she had worked for it and he she had another one at home, a beautiful apartment, a growing fashion and design business, enough money to take care of herself. She had come a long way but as she looked at her car, she wasn't satisfied. "Two cars," she murmured, she folded her arms. "Only two" she shook her head "No. I need more". A security guard standing nearby smiled politely at her. "Good afternoon, ma" "Good afternoon" she smiled back and started walking toward the entrance. After a few steps, she stopped. She turned around and looked at her car again. "Don't worry," she whispered. "Your sisters are coming" she laughed at herself "Three, four..... maybe five more" she continue walking. As she approached the entrance, a young man opened the glass door for her. She walked inside, the cool air immediately touched her skin, she took off her sunglasses and looked around the beautiful lobby, everything was exactly the kind of environment she loved. Marble floors, Huge chandeliers, Fresh flowers, people dressed in expensive clothes, soft music playing somewhere in the background. Anne smiled "This is more like it" she walked toward the reception desk. "Good afternoon" Anne greeted the receptionist "Good afternoon, ma. How may I help you" said the receptionist "I am here for the fashion program event upstairs." The receptionist checked her name "Your name, please?" "Anne Williams" The woman typed something into the computer "Yes, ma. You're on the guest list, she was directed to the elevator. As she waited for the elevator, she looked herself in the mirrored wall and smile. The elevator doors opened, she stepped inside. As the doors closed, she sighed and whispered to herself "Girl this is beautiful, I don't want a man who will tell me love is enough" she rolled her eyes "Love without money" she laughed softly and shook her head "I've worked too hard on myself and I know what I want and I will get it, I'll surely get a man that matches my lifestyle" The elevator dinged, the doors opened and then she stepped out elegantly, she adjusted her dress and walked toward the ballroom. She didn't know it yet, but somewhere inside that room was the man she had spent weeks trying to find. Lucas Sterling Unlike the men Anne had rejected before him.... Lucas didn't need to prove that he had money, everyone already knew, he owned companies, several of them. Technology, Real estate, Luxury Fashion, Finance, International Investments. Lucas had a reputation, his family name was practically a brand on its own. And Lucas was the youngest and most powerful member of the Sterling Family. But money wasn't the only thing people talked about. They talked about his personality. Cold, Private Difficult, Unpredictable, some people called him rude, others simply called him dangerous. His parents had spent years trying to find him a wife. They had introduced him to beautiful, educated women who came from familes with money and connections, he rejected them one after another. His mother once asked him, "Lucas, what exactly are you looking for?" He barely looked up from his phone, he did not reply. "Which type of woman would you prefer? talk to me" said his mother. He replied "Mom please, not today" Lucas finally looked at her and then he stood up and left "See you later mom" he said. Then he said, "Someone who doesn't want me because I'm rich." And that was the irony. Because the woman walking toward him that afternoon wanted exactly that. Anne didn't know his name yet. She didn't know his story, she didn't know that his family had been searching for a woman he would actually choose. And most importantly, she didn't know that Lucas Sterling was about to become the biggest temptation of her life because Anne had always wanted a billionaire. She just never expected the billionaire to be the one man she couldn't easily control.
Anne had arrived at the fashion program thirty minutes early. She wasn't the type of person who enjoyed waiting, but she had deliberately arrived early because she wanted a good seat. The program was an important one, especially for young designers and people in the luxury fashion industry. She found her seat near the front of the hall and settled down comfortably. For the first few minutes, she simply looked around. The hall was beautifully decorated, with elegant lights hanging from the ceiling and neatly arranged seats facing the large stage. Several banners displaying the names of the sponsors and fashion companies were placed around the venue. Anne pulled out her phone. Since the program hadn't started yet, she had time to spare. She opened her social media accounts and began scrolling through her feed. She checked her messages and replied a few clients. She opened her business page and checked the latest comments then she switched to another social media app. She wasn't in a hurry she had a thirty whole minutes before the program was expected to begin. Gradually, people started arriving, one person walked in then another. Soon, the empty seats around Anne began filling up. The conversations became louder, people greeted one another, exchanged handshakes, took pictures and discussed business. Anne remained quietly in her seat. She occasionally looked up from her phone, but she mostly kept to herself. After some time, the organizers finally appeared on the stage. The microphones were checked, the lights were adjusted, the audience slowly settled down, everyone was waiting for the program to begin. Then the doors at the entrance suddenly opened, a few people turned around. Whispers immediately spread across the hall. "He's here" Anne looked up, and then she saw him Lucas Sterling. The atmosphere changed almost immediately. Lucas walked into the hall with two men following behind him, he wore a perfectly fitted black suit that made his tall figure stand out without looking like he was trying to hard. His face was expressionless, he wasn't smiling and he didn't greet anyone. He simply walked through the hall with an air of authority that made people instinctively move aside. Conversations died down as he passed. Even the people who had been talking loudly moments earlier became quiet. Lucas didn't seem bothered. His eyes moved briefly around the hall before he continued toward the reserved seat waiting for him near the front. One of the event organizers quickly approached him. "Good afternoon, Mr. Sterling. We're very happy to have you here". Lucas gave him a brief nod. "Thank you. That was all. He didn't stop for a conversation, or exchange unnecessary pleasantries, he simply walked to his seat and sat down. Anne watched him from her seat. she whispered to herself "So this was Lucas Sterling, the billionaire everyone seemed to know, the businessman who owned several successful companies, Technology, Real estate, Finance, Luxury fashion. Interesting" she nodded her head. The Program finally began. The host welcomed everyone and introduced the day's speakers. The first discussion focused on the growth of the fashion industry. Different designers spoke about their experiences. Some discussed luxury fashion, others talked about technology, and another speaker discussed the importance of taking fashion to the international market. Anne listened carefully. Fashion wasn't just a hobby for her, it was her business, she was a designer herself, and she had built her small brand from the ground up so when the discussion turned toward the future of fashion, she became even more interested. One of the panelists leaned toward the microphone. "How do we expand the fashion industry beyond what we already have?" A man on the panel answered first "We need stronger international partnerships if emerging designers want to enter larger market, they need access to the right networks". Another speaker shook her head "Partnerships alone aren't enough. We need technology. The way customers discover, purchase and experience fashion is changing rapidly" The discussion continued. Different opinions began coming from different parts of the hall. Some people talked about digital fashion, others discussed luxury retail, global marketing, social media influence and the importance of building recognizable brands. Then one of the speakers made a statement that caught Anne's attention. "If we want the next generation of fashion brands to compete globally, we have to stop thinking small." Anne leaned slightly forward "Exactly". The moderator then opened the floor for contributions, several hands went up, a few people spoke. Then the moderator looked toward the front section. His eyes stopped on Anne "You ma'am" Anne looked around, wondering who he was talking to. The moderation smiled, "yes, you. We'd like to hear your opinion." Anne slowly stood. She adjusted her dress, picked up the microphone and faced the audience "I believe we're looking at the problem from the wrong direction." The room became quiet. She continued "Everyone keeps asking how emerging fashion brands can become global, but we're still designing and marketing as if we need permission from bigger brands before we can be taken seriously." Several people nodded. Anne became more confident "We don't need to copy brands that already dominate the luxry market. We need to create something unique enough that people will come looking for us". A few people applauded. She continued "Luxury isn't just about expensive fabric or a famous logo. It's about presentation. It's about craftsmanship. It's about story behind the brand and the experience you give the customer. She paused briefly "People should see your product and immediately understand what your brand represents." The room became even quieter. Anne glanced briefly around the hall "And if we want to build brands that can compete internationally, we have to stop thinking only about making beautiful clothes." She tightened her grip slightly around the microphone "We have to think about the entire business". A few people nodded. "The design, the packaging, the marketing, the customer experience, the image, the strategy" she paused "Because a beautiful dress can make someone look good for one night." Her eyes moved across the room "But a powerful brand can make people remember you for years. For a moment, nobody said anything then the applause began. Anne smiled politely, she handed the microphone back to the moderator and stepped away from the stage. As she walked back toward her seat, she noticed several people looking at her. But there was one person whose attention she didn't realize she had completely captured. Lucas Sterling His expression remained unreadable but his eyes followed Anne until she sat down, he had heard hundreds of people speak about fashion, most of them talked about trends, some talked about money others talked about becoming famous but Anne talked about building something. And for the first time that afternoon, Lucas leaned slightly forward in his chair. He was interested, he just didn't know why yet. And Anne? She had absolutely no idea that the billionaire sitting a few seats away had just started paying attention to her.
The applause slowly died down. Anne returned to her seat and placed her unusually quiet. Then the moderator looked toward the front row, his eyes settled on Lucas. "Mr. Sterling," he said into the microphone, "we would also like to hear from you". A small murmur went through the room. Everyone immediately turned their attention toward Lucas. The moderator smiled politely. "Perhaps you could share your thoughts on where you believe fashion industry is heading and what you think young designers should be focusing on." Lucas remained seated for a moment, his expression didn't change, and then he slowly stood. The room became completely silent, not the kind silence that happened because people were bored. Everyone was waiting. Lucas adjusted the button of his jacket, took the microphone from the moderator and walked to the center of the stage. He stood there calmly, straight, confident, his face was serious. He wasn't the type to smile unnecessarily, he looked across the audience once then he began. "The fashion industry is changing" His voice was deep and steady "We are no longer in a market where having a good product is enough. Competition is global, customers have more choices than ever before, and technology has changed the way people discover brands, interact with them and spend their money." He paused briefly. "So if you're building a fashion company today, you cannot think like you're only building a clothing line." You're building a business, that means you need structure, strategy and need people who understand finance, marketing, production and distribution." Several people nodded. He continued without rushing "You can have the best designs in the room and still fail if you don't know how to turn those designs into a sustainable business." The hall remained silent. Lucas wasn't trying to entertain them. He wasn't trying to charm anyone, he was simply saying what he believed needed to be said. Anne sat quietly in her seat, she was listening. But something about Lucas's way of speaking caught her attention. He didn't speak like someone who was trying to prove that he was intelligent. He spoke like someone who was used to making decisions. Someone who expected people to listen. Lucas glanced briefly across the hall, his eyes passed over several faces then they stopped on Anne for a second. She didn't notice or perhaps she did, she quickly looked down at her phone. Lucas looked away and then he continue with his speech. He looked toward the panel. "Designers need to stop seeing business as something separate from creativity, your creativity gets people interested but your business keeps them coming back" He looked around the room, he lowered the microphone slightly "Thank you very much" He handed the microphone back to the moderator. No smile, no dramatic gesture, no attempt to receive more applause, and then simply walked back to his seat. The audience applauded as he sat down. The moderator smiled. "Thank you, Mr. Sterling." The program continued. They moved on to another discussion about investment, emerging designers, international expansion and future of luxury retail. Panelists debated, questions were asked, answers were given, and the audience participated. Everything continued exactly as planned at least on the outside. But Lucas wasn't completely focused anymore, part of his mind remained on the discussion and the other part kept returning to the woman (Anne) who had stood at the microphone earlier. He didn't know her or her name until someone beside him quietly mentioned it, "Anne", the person whispered. Lucas said nothing, his eyes remained on the stage but the name stayed on his mind (Anne). He leaned back slightly in his chair, his fingers rested against the armrest; he listened to the next speaker. At least, he appeared to be listening but every few minutes his eyes moved toward Anne. She was taking notes, then checking her phone and listening to the speakers again. At one point, she leaned toward the woman beside her and whispered something. The woman laughed. Anne smiled. Lucas looked away. He didn't understand why he was paying attention to her, he usually didn't. He had attended hundreds of business meetings, conferences and events, had met beautiful, influential women, who had approached him because of his name, his money or the opportunities that came with knowing him. He had never cared. But Anne hadn't approached him. She hadn't tried to introduce herself and hadn't looked particularly impressed by him. That was unusual. Lucas looked toward the stage again. The discussion continued. He listened to the speaker's words. The program eventually reached its final session. The host thanked the speakers, the sponsors and everyone who had attended. People began standing, chairs moved across the floor, conversations immediately filled the hall. Some people rushed toward the speakers, while others exchanged contacts. Anne remained seated for a moment, she checked her phone and noticed several new messages from clients, she signed softly. "Work doesn't wait," she murmured. She slipped her phone into her handbag and stood. As she adjusted the strap of her bag over her shoulder, she glanced toward the front. Lucas was standing too. For a brief second, their eyes met. Anne stopped, Lucas didn't and neither of them said anything. Someone approached Lucas and began speaking to him. Anne looked away and turned toward the exit. She had barely taken three steps when a staff member hurried toward her. "Excuse me, ma'am. Anne turned. "Yes?" The woman smiled politely. "Mr. Sterling's office asked that you wait for a moment" Anne's eyebrows lifted. "My.... What?" The woman lowered her voice. "Mr. Sterling would like to speak with you" Anne stared at her. For the first time that afternoon, she didn't know what to say. She looked toward the front of the hall but Lucas was no longer there. He had disappeared through the side entrance. Anne slowly turned back to the staff member. "Where am I supposed to wait?" The woman pointed toward a private corridor. "Someone will come for you." Anne stood there for a moment, staring at the corridor. Then she looked down at her handbag. She could leave, or could simply walk out but curiosity won. She took a slow breath. "Okay." And she followed the woman. Neither Anne nor Lucas knew it yet, but the conversation waiting behind that door was going to change the direction of both their lives.
