The Scarred Alpha's Defiant Substitute Bride
Chapter 1

Danika POV: "Wake up, unless you want to drown in your own blood." My voice rasped against the dry heat in my throat. I opened my eyes, and a sharp, throbbing ache flared behind my temples, as if a semi-truck had driven straight through my skull. My muscles burned, raw and exhausted from a night of reckless abandon. A scent instantly flooded my nose—pure, freezing cedar and crushed winter pine. It was an overwhelming fragrance that belonged only to a dominant werewolf, so sharp it made my pulse spike into a frantic rhythm. In our world, where unique scents reveal identity far quicker than a human face, this smell was unforgettable. I forced my head to turn on the lumpy pillow. Morning light filtered through the stained curtains of the motel room, cutting across a wide, muscular back slick with cold sweat. Fragments of the previous night flashed across my vision. His skin had burned against mine, sparking a jolt of raw electricity that had felt like lightning sinking directly into my bones. Even now, the memory made my fingertips tingle with an eerie numbness. Deep within my chest, something stirred. Though the Kensington Pack called me a broken, wolfless nobody who lacked an inner wolf, a silent, ancient presence inside me let out a desperate, possessive hum. It wanted him. A harsh, suffocating gasp tore from the man. He curled in on himself, shaking the cheap mattress as his broad shoulders knotted into tight cords of agony. I kicked the coarse blanket aside and rolled out of bed. My legs trembled slightly, but I ignored the soreness, grabbing an oversized black button-down shirt from the floor. I slipped it over my shoulders, buttoning it fast to hide the dark bruises and red bite marks scattered across my collarbones and ribs. The collar carried his cedar scent, dragging a strange, unsettling feeling of belonging through my gut. I shoved the emotion down, locking it away behind cold indifference. I walked to the side of the bed and looked down at him. His golden-brown skin was turning a sickening, ashy gray. Black, spidery veins branched up his thick neck, pulsing like poison beneath the flesh. It was silver. Not just any metal, but silver-laced liquid poison engineered to kill a full-grown Alpha within hours. To our kind, silver is the ultimate lethality, capable of burning wolf spirits to ash and melting internal organs into useless sludge. Ordinary werewolves never dared to touch it, yet this man's veins were completely saturated with it. His eyelids snapped open. Two striking, icy-blue wolf eyes locked onto mine. Even with blood vessels ruptured across the whites and wild fury clouding his vision, the gaze carried a terrifying, lethal authority. Moving with pure, unyielding predator instinct, he surged off the mattress. His large hand closed around my throat like a steel vise. My back slammed hard against the peeling wallpaper. The breath rushed out of my lungs as his towering frame pinned me against the wall, his feverish chest radiating oppressive heat and an overwhelming rush of raw male musk. "Who sent you?" he snarled, his voice deep, gravelly, and laced with deadly intent. His grip tightened, cutting off my air, yet his own pulse was racing erratically, on the verge of total collapse. I looked straight into his freezing blue eyes, refusing to flinch. A faint smirk touched my lips. "If I wanted you dead, you would already be a corpse rotting on that stained mattress." His pupils contracted. The utter lack of panic in my voice caught him off guard, and the brutal pressure on my windpipe eased by a fraction of an inch. That fraction was all I needed. My right hand whipped upward. Between my index and middle fingers, a silver acupuncture needle flashed in the dim light. Before he could react, I drove it deep into a pressure point on the right side of his neck, right where the black poison clustered thickest. He stiffened violently. A look of sheer, disbelieving shock crossed his rugged features as the needle intercepted the toxic flow. The terrifying strength in his arm evaporated instantly, his muscles turning to dead weight. His massive body slumped forward. I caught his chest with both hands, the heavy heat of his frame pressing against me. Our chests rose and fell in synchronized gasps, trapped in a dangerously close embrace where the sharp scent of cedar filled every breath I took. We stayed locked together, held back only by the poison paralyzing his limbs. "You're too heavy," I muttered, gritting my teeth as I dragged him toward the mattress. I shoved him back onto the bed. He collapsed against the pillows, but his eyes never left me. They tracked every breath I took, watching me like a caged beast evaluating a lethal threat. The black lines along his neck began to recede, turning from violent ink to pale shadows under the needle's guidance. To survive that concentration of liquid silver without his wolf spirit burning away meant he was no ordinary stray. In the entire Federation, fewer than three men possessed that kind of monstrous vitality. "You know medicine?" he rasped. His chest heaved, but the natural dominance in his tone refused to yield. I turned my back on him, walked over to the warped wooden nightstand, and poured a glass of stale tap water. I downed it in one go. "I know enough to keep you breathing," I said, setting the plastic cup down. "Be grateful." A low, mocking chuckle rumbled in his throat. His gaze drifted down the oversized shirt hanging loosely over my bare thighs, his eyes darkening with a heavy, territorial hunger. "Last night..." he began, pausing as if searching for the right word to describe the wreckage between us. "Last night was an accident," I cut him off, my tone flat, stripping away every ounce of emotion. "You were burning with an aphrodisiac, and I happened to need an antidote. Don't flatter yourself." His eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. The air in the tiny room dropped several degrees, thick with the silent fury of an Alpha used to absolute obedience. I ignored the chill. Walking over to the cracked mirror above the sink, I pushed my damp, messy hair behind my ears, revealing the tiny, crimson mole resting near the outer corner of my left eye. In the records of the Kensington Pack, I was nothing more than an outcast—a wolfless girl discarded on a remote farm, deemed useless because I couldn't shift into a beast. But I had survived long enough in the shadows to know that no Alpha would ever own me. "The needle only bought you time," I said, meeting his reflection in the glass. "If that silver isn't purged from your marrow within three days, your blood will turn to acid and melt your heart." He pushed himself up against the headboard. The terrifying healing factor of high-tier werewolves was already knitting his shredded stamina back together, bringing a faint flush of color back to his chiseled jawline. "Name your price," he commanded, his voice dark and absolute. I turned around, leaning against the edge of the sink to tell him exactly where he could shove his money, when the wooden door rattled violently. A heavy boot struck the deadbolt from the outside, splintering the frame with a deafening crack. A shrill, venomous woman's voice cut through the wood, dripping with spite. "Danika! You worthless wolfless trash, get your filthy ass out here right now!"

Chapter 2

Danika POV: The cheap wood yielded with a sickening snap. The door flew inward, crashing flat against the dust-caked carpet and kicking up a cloud of chalky debris. Martha Riggs, the chief Enforcer of the Kensington Pack, marched over the threshold. Behind her stood four hulking male guards, their broad shoulders filling the narrow hallway like armored walls. I didn't blink. With a subtle flick of my bare foot, I kicked his heavy leather jacket under the bed frame, stepping sideways to block the view of the half-open bathroom door. Through the narrow crack in the bathroom paneling, I could feel the cold, lethal presence of the man inside. He was quiet, but his aura sat in the shadows like a loaded gun. "Eager to die this early in the morning, Martha?" I asked, crossing my arms over the front of the black shirt. Martha pinched her nose in disgust, her small, beady eyes raking over my bare legs and the oversized men's collar framing my neck. "Wipe that pathetic smirk off your face, you wolfless parasite," she hissed, her voice sharp enough to grate on bone. The guards behind her let out rough, mocking chuckles. The sour, stale scent of cheap tobacco and low-grade Beta musk rolled off them, polluting the morning air. I tilted my head, my fingertips tapping lightly against my forearm. Three seconds. That was all I needed to drive a paralytic powder into their nasal passages and leave all five of them choking on their own tongues. "Luna Eunice has issued her final order," Martha barked, thrusting her chin forward in arrogant satisfaction. "You are coming back to the estate right now to prepare for next week's mating union." A dry laugh escaped my throat. "A mating union? What happened to Gwyn, your precious pureblood princess? Since when does the trash of the farm get invited to high society?" "Lady Gwyn has a glorious future ahead of her," Martha sneered, her lips curling with pure malice. "Why would our Luna waste her pure bloodline on a crippled, bloodthirsty monster like Alpha Garrett? The man is a disfigured beast waiting for the grave!" She took a heavy step forward, pointing a manicured finger at my chest. "You have no inner wolf. You have no value. Taking the fall for Lady Gwyn and enduring that beast's psychotic rage is the only reason you were allowed to draw breath this long!" A faint rustle of fabric came from the bathroom behind me. My heart gave a subtle thud. The Alpha in the shadows had heard every single word of that insult. I raised my voice slightly, letting the sarcasm drip from every syllable. "Oh? So the great Kensington family wants to serve me up as a sacrificial lamb to a hideous, deranged Alpha prince just to save their darling daughter's reputation?" "Shut your mouth!" Martha snarled, losing her patience. "If you refuse to walk, I will gladly snap both of your legs and drag you back by your hair!" Martha glared at my unmoving stance, her temper snapping entirely. She jerked her head toward the two guards flanking her. "Restrain her! Bind her hands!" The two bruisers stepped forward, their thick knuckles popping as dark claws extended from their fingertips. Cruel, violent grins spread across their faces. I shifted my weight back half an inch, my right fingers sliding into the deep pocket of the oversized shirt, locating three silver needles coated in concentrated nerve toxin. "Wait!" Martha suddenly froze, her nostrils flaring as she caught the scent lingering in the room. Her eyes snapped wide, locking onto the rumpled bedsheets and the heavy imprint of two bodies. "There's a male's scent in here!" she shrieked, pointing an accusing, trembling finger at the tangled blankets. "You shameless, disgusting whore! You laid with an unranked rogue before your wedding day!" My jaw tightened. A werewolf's sense of smell never lied, and his cedar musk was far too potent to be wiped away by a breeze. "Search the place!" Martha screamed, her voice reaching a hysterical pitch. "Find the filthy mutt! I'll rip his throat out with my bare hands and make her watch!" The four guards surged forward, tearing through the small space. Two of them aimed straight for the bathroom, their heavy combat boots slamming into the flimsy door panel. The wood exploded into splinters. I didn't move an inch. I stayed right where I was, my arms crossed, a cold, mocking smile playing at the corners of my lips. Idiots. They had no idea what kind of monster they had just cornered in the dark. Garrett POV: I leaned my back against the damp tiles of the bathroom wall. The jagged silver burn scar running down the left side of my face throbbed with a dull, familiar fire. Through the crack in the door, every venomous word from that screeching female hit my ears, stirring the violent, ancient Lycan blood dormant in my veins. So that was it. The woman who had shared my bed, whose touch had sent shocks of raw lightning through my soul, and who had neutralized deadly silver with a simple flick of a needle, was the substitute bride they intended to throw to the slaughter. I narrowed my eyes, the cold blue within them shifting toward an ominous, predatory gold. A wolfless discard. A farm-raised outcast who moved with the lethal grace of a trained assassin, understood forbidden medicine, and faced down high-ranking enforcers without an ounce of fear in her stance. Fascinating. I flexed my right hand. The liquid silver had retreated from my palm, allowing the monstrous, suffocating strength of my bloodline to flood back into my veins. The Kensingtons truly believed they could treat me like a dying dog, feeding me scraps from their back door. They were about to learn what happened when you tried to leash a tyrant. As the bathroom door splintered inward under their boots, I released my aura. From the shattered doorway of the bathroom, a wave of crushing, suffocating Alpha's Command detonated into the room like an invisible shockwave, bringing the weight of a collapsing mountain down upon their heads.

Chapter 3

Danika POV: The invisible force of the Alpha's Command fell upon the room like an iron slab. The two guards who had kicked the door in froze instantly. Their knees buckled under the sheer, genetic superiority of the command, hitting the floor with a bone-jarring thud. Whimpers of raw, instinctual terror tore from their throats as their heads were forced flat against the stained carpet. Martha's face drained of every drop of color. She grabbed the doorframe with both hands, her knuckles turning white, but her shins shook so violently they clattered against the wood. Slow, measured footsteps echoed from the bathroom. The man walked out of the shadows. He wore only his dark trousers, his bare, scarred torso taut with lethal muscle. The jagged silver burn carving down the left side of his face caught the morning light, making him look less like a man and more like a demon pulled straight from the abyss. "Rip my throat out?" His voice was a low, guttural vibration that vibrated through the floorboards. The icy blue of his eyes had turned into a burning, molten gold. Martha stared at him, her chest heaving in rapid, shallow gasps. Her mid-tier Beta genetics were completely crushed beneath the pure, absolute dominion rolling off him. She couldn't even raise her chin. "Who... who are you?" she stammered, desperately trying to cling to her pathetic authority. "We are enforcers of the Kensington Pack! If you lay a hand on us—" The man didn't waste his breath. He vanished. To ordinary eyes, he was a black blur. To me, his movement was pure, terrifying efficiency. A sickening snap cracked through the room. The guard nearest to his left didn't even have time to scream. The Alpha's bare hand had seized his jaw, twisting his entire head one hundred and eighty degrees in a single, fluid motion. The guard collapsed, lifeless, his neck broken before his brain could register the impact. Dark blood pooled over the filthy rug, the heavy, metallic stench instantly obliterating the smell of cheap tobacco. The remaining three guards let out panicked, animalistic howls. Pushed to the brink of death, they attempted to trigger The Shift. Their spines arched violently. Bone crunched and reformed beneath their skin as coarse gray fur burst through their uniforms. But an incomplete shift offered zero protection against an apex predator. The Alpha's eyes flared crimson. His fingernails elongated in a flash, shifting into razor-sharp, pitch-black beast claws. He lunged forward. His hand thrust straight through the second guard's chest plate like paper, his claws wrapping around the man's heart and tearing it free in a spray of scarlet. I leaned against the peeling wall, my arms crossed over my chest, watching the clinical massacre unfold without blinking. My fingers quietly slipped the three poison needles back into my pocket. The third guard managed a partial transformation, his muzzle elongating into a snarling wolf's snout as he swung a massive, hairy claw toward the Alpha's blind spot. The Alpha didn't even turn his head. He drove his elbow backward with brutal, concussive force, striking the half-shifted guard square in the trachea. The crunch of cartilage was deafening. The creature crashed to the floor, convulsing twice before going completely limp. Ten seconds. That was all it took. Four elite Kensington enforcers were reduced to steaming heaps of dead meat. The room fell dead silent, save for the steady drip of blood hitting the carpet from the Alpha's stained claws. Martha broke. A high-pitched, ragged scream tore from her throat as she scrambled backward on her hands and knees, clawing desperately toward the hallway. The Alpha flicked the gore from his hand, his golden eyes locking onto her retreating spine. He took a heavy stride forward, ready to crush her skull under his boot. "Leave her alive," I said. My calm, even tone cut through the slaughter like a silver blade. His movement halted. He slowly turned his head, those wild, blood-soaked eyes fixing onto me. The air grew tight, heavy with the suffocating threat of his dominion. "Are you commanding me?" he growled, the beast in his throat rumbling dangerously. I didn't lower my gaze. Though my body lacked an inner beast to answer his call, the ancient, hidden bloodline in my veins flared warm, shielding my mind from the crushing weight of his aura. "I'm giving you advice," I said, a cold, mocking smile touching my lips. "Dead dogs can't carry messages back to their masters." He stared at me, his chest rising and falling as the scarlet haze in his eyes slowly receded, replaced once more by deep, icy blue. The beast stepped back. He retracted his claws, letting Martha cower in the doorway. I stepped over the puddle of fresh blood, my bare feet silent against the floor, until I stood directly over the trembling enforcer. She looked up at me, her eyes wide with unadulterated horror, as if seeing an executioner. "Danika... what... what are you doing?" I reached down, grabbed a handful of her greasy hair, and yanked her head back until her neck was stretched taut. "Go back to Eunice," I whispered, my voice cold enough to freeze marrow. "Tell her that if she wants me to take Gwyn's place, she better be ready to pay the price."
